Faucet and sink repair

A dripping faucet usually needs a new cartridge or washer. Low flow often means a clogged aerator. A leak under the sink is usually a loose drain slip nut, a failing supply line or a worn shutoff valve.

About faucet & sink repair

Faucet problems are small until they aren't. A braided supply line that bursts under a sink can flood a kitchen in minutes, and old multi-turn shutoff valves often won't close when you need them.

When a plumber replaces a faucet, it's worth replacing the supply lines and the shutoff valves at the same time.

  • Faucet style (pull-down, wall-mount, widespread)
  • Shutoff valve or supply line replacement
  • Sink or countertop access

Faucet & sink repair questions

Should I repair or replace a dripping faucet?

If parts are available and the body isn't corroded, a cartridge swap is usually enough. Older or no-name faucets often cost more in labor to rebuild than to replace.

Why is my faucet pressure low?

Usually a clogged aerator: unscrew the tip and rinse out debris. If both hot and cold are low throughout the house, the problem is in the supply.

How often should supply lines be replaced?

Braided supply lines are inexpensive and commonly replaced every 5 to 10 years or whenever a faucet or toilet is replaced.

Can a plumber install a faucet I bought?

Usually yes. Ask whether they'll warranty the labor on a customer-supplied fixture.

What is a quarter-turn shutoff valve?

A ball-type valve that shuts off fully with a quarter turn of the handle. It's more reliable than older multi-turn valves that often seize.

Why is there water under my kitchen sink?

Check the drain slip nuts, the disposal and dishwasher connections, the supply lines and the faucet base. Dry everything, run water and watch where drips start.
